Well, I think we can all put this one in the "Duh!" column.

Of course there is a correlation between the severity of a visual
disability and the quality of life. That said, there are many
individuals who have very limited visual ability and have full and
high quality lives.

Undoubtedly the most prevalent motivation for refractive surgery is to
reduce the disability of hyperopia, myopia, and/or astigmatism with
that disability's requirement of the use of corrective lenses. A
reduce need for corrective lenses is a reduced disability and
logically would constitute an improvement in the quality of life.

There is some risk involved with refractive surgery and that risk must
be weighted against the benefit of a reduced need for corrective
lenses.

Default A strong correlation exists between the severity of the visual disability and the quality of life.

Look for more information coming to a computer (or medical board or
FDA) near you. coming soon!

http://www.islrr.org/Vision02/851.html

The mean scores in the LVQOL questionnaire was 64.91 while the
NEI-VFQ-25 mean score was 63.86.

CONCLUSION: A strong correlation exists between the severity of the
visual disability and the quality of life. The two visual function
questionnaire scores are comparable and proportional to the severity
of low vision. The visual function score can be used to measure the
outcome of visual rehabilitation, by comparing the score before and
after rehabilitation.
